Renters Moving in Portland Oregon

Ever wonder why renters move, or what the primary reason are causing renters to move from the home or apartment they are renting in Portland? You may be surprised to know, home ownership is not even on the list. That surprises me because a fair amount of our clients are former renters. Of these former renters, most wanted to:

  1. Have a home that's a place of their own, so they can do what they want to do

  2. Create a stable environment for their children

  3. Stabilize the payment to avoid future increases

  4. Enjoy the tax savings

  5. Gain wealth, through future gains in Equity

Anyway, the info graph shows the results of a survey completed by apartment list. What would be the reason you would move? I'd like to know?

Income out paces rents

With all the talk about rising Rents and affordability in Portland, I thought it important to point out that experts indicate a rise in incomes continues to outpace the rise in rents. So, to some degree this does answer the question of affordability. Sure, it never feels good to receive a rent increase in the mail. Of course not everyone's wages are rising to keep pace. Honestly, if you want to stabilize your housing expense, then you must buy a home of your own. It's the only true path that makes it happen. Then, as your wages increase the your disposal income increases too, your afforded more freedom to save, take vacations and do the things that are most important to you.
